Ploughman’s toast merges chutney, onion and golden cooked cheese to make delicious farmhouse fare that never fails and is affordable. I cannot think of a better cheese to cook with than Lancashire. I was born there so I suppose I am allowed that indulgence.
Cooks Know How: You will use basic ingredients to create a hugely satisfying snack. You will see how cheese melts and browns and drips over the ingredients placed underneath to smother them. The proteins in the cheese then set to hold the other ingredients in place. You will develop your skills in bringing out flavour combinations using chutney to develop the sweeter edge and onion to add tang and crunch. You will see how fast grilling is as a cooking method and learn that this snack is cheaper than a pizza and better!
